Scaling
Scaled
Dumbbell bench at a load allowing 8-15 reps per set; banded pull-ups or ring rows. Score total reps — the no-clock format already scales itself.
Beginner
5 rounds of max push-ups and max ring rows. Same strategic puzzle (how close to failure per set?), no barbell required.
The story
Five rounds of max-rep bodyweight bench press and max-rep pull-ups, with no clock at all. One of only a few untimed benchmarks: the score is total reps, and the strategy question — how close to failure to push each set — has no clean answer. Part of CrossFit's original 'Girls' benchmark series — named workouts introduced by founder Greg Glassman starting in 2003, on the logic that anything that leaves you flat on your back deserves a name like a storm. They serve as repeatable fitness tests: revisit one every few months and the clock tells you whether you're fitter. First posted to CrossFit.com on 2004-04-22.
